Couples Counseling in San Clemente

A supportive space for couples to understand each other and reconnect.

Is couples counseling right for us?

  • Constant conflict, or conversations that escalate quickly

  • Communication that has shut down or turned into criticism

  • Broken trust, including infidelity

  • Life transitions: a new baby, a move, job loss, retirement or an empty nest

  • Stress around finances, parenting or extended family

  • Substance use affecting the relationship

  • Feeling disconnected or unsure about the future together

If any of these sound familiar,
you may benefit from couples counseling.

Every relationship hits rough patches. You might be arguing about the same things over and over, feeling more like roommates than partners, or trying to rebuild trust after something painful. Couples counseling at Brain Repair gives you both a structured, neutral space to slow down, understand each other, and practice new ways of relating.

You don't have to be in crisis to start. Many couples come in to strengthen a relationship that's basically good. And you don't both have to be sure about therapy on day one.

How it works

Your first session is a 50-minute conversation with both partners. We'll learn how you met, what's working, what isn't, and what each of you hopes will change. The next one or two sessions focus on understanding the patterns that keep repeating and agreeing on goals.

From there, sessions are practical. You'll work on specific skills: how to raise a concern without starting a fight, how to really listen, how to repair after an argument, and how to calm down when emotions run high. Many of these tools come from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which Brain Repair specializes in, including emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Between sessions, you'll try the skills at home.

How long does it take?

Most couples meet weekly at first, then less often as things improve. Some couples work on one specific issue over a few months. Others use counseling longer to work through deeper patterns. We'll review progress with you regularly.

Cost and insurance

Couples sessions are $175–250. Brain Repair doesn't bill insurance directly. If you have a PPO plan, we provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
