Addiction Counseling in San Clemente

Outpatient treatment from licensed and certified addiction clinicians, built around your goals.

Who we help

  • Your drinking or use has crept up and you want to get ahead of it

  • You've tried to cut back on your own and it hasn't stuck

  • You're stepping down from detox, residential treatment or an IOP

  • You're in recovery and feeling shaky, or you've relapsed

  • Anxiety, depression or trauma are tangled up with the substance use

  • You're a parent or partner who wants guidance and support of your own

You don't have to hit bottom
to get help. Treatment that fits your life.

You don't have to hit bottom, check into a facility, or have everything figured out to get help with drinking or drug use. Brain Repair offers outpatient addiction counseling in San Clemente for people who want to change their relationship with alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, opioids, prescription medication or other substances, whether the goal is cutting back, stopping entirely, or staying stopped after treatment.

Addiction is our team's deepest specialty. Our clinical director is a Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC) as well as an LCSW, and every clinician on our team holds a California addiction certification (CADC or CATC) in addition to their mental health training. That matters because substance use almost never shows up alone. Anxiety, depression, trauma and ADHD are usually part of the picture, and we treat the whole person rather than sending you to two different offices.

How we work

  • Honest assessment, no lectures. We start by understanding what the substance does for you, what it's costing you, and what you actually want. Your goals drive the plan.

  • Evidence-based tools. We use CBT to work on the thoughts and situations that lead to use, motivational interviewing to strengthen your own reasons for change, and DBT skills, which were developed partly for substance use, to handle cravings, stress and the emotions that drive relapse.

  • Co-occurring care. Trauma, anxiety and depression are treated at the same time, by the same clinician.

  • Relapse prevention and aftercare. If you've completed detox, residential treatment or an IOP, we help you hold onto what you gained and build a life that doesn't need the substance.

  • Family involvement. With your consent, we can include partners or parents so the people around you know how to help instead of guess.

What a first session looks like

Your first session is free and confidential. We'll talk about what's going on without judgment and decide together whether outpatient counseling is the right level of care. If you need something more intensive, we'll say so and help you find it.

Who you'll work with

Every Brain Repair clinician holds an addiction credential alongside their mental health training, so you can choose the person who feels like the best fit. Visit our Meet the Team page to learn more about each of us.

Common questions

Do I have to be completely sober to start? No. We meet you where you are. Your goals, whether that's moderation or abstinence, are part of the conversation from day one.

Is this a rehab? No. We're an outpatient therapy practice. If you need medical detox, residential or intensive outpatient treatment, we'll help you find it and can continue working with you afterward.

Is it confidential? Yes. Your treatment is protected by federal and state confidentiality laws, including the extra protections that apply to substance use treatment records.

Can my spouse or parent come to a session? Yes, with your consent. Family sessions are often one of the most useful parts of treatment.
